Church Summer Camp in Taiwan

This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer as a teacher assistant for the elementary school summer camp at the Korean Church in Taiwan. The camp was designed to provide children with a fun, safe, and educational environment while also helping them grow socially and spiritually. My role was to support the lead teachers in running activities, guiding students, and ensuring that each child felt included and encouraged.
Throughout the camp, I helped organize games, craft projects, and group activities. One of my favorite parts was assisting with arts and crafts sessions, where the children’s creativity amazed me. Seeing them proudly show off their work reminded me how small encouragements can boost confidence and self-expression. I also helped with interactive lessons that included storytelling, songs, and English language practice, which allowed the children to learn while having fun.
Beyond the structured activities, I spent a lot of time simply interacting with the kids — listening to their stories, answering questions, and helping them navigate small challenges. It was incredibly rewarding to see shy children gradually open up, make friends, and participate with excitement.
This experience also taught me patience, adaptability, and the importance of clear communication, especially in a setting where cultural and language differences can create challenges. More than anything, it reminded me of the value of mentorship and the profound impact even small gestures of care and attention can have on young minds.
Volunteering at the Korean Church summer camp was not just about teaching or helping; it was about building connections, sharing joy, and contributing to a community that values growth, learning, and friendship. I left the camp inspired and grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children.
